Withheld
I selected this photo not only because of its composition but because of invocation it provokes. The black and white contrast provides a set in stone atmosphere. The clarity of the fence posts, chain and lock contrasts the barely visible blurry background conveying a thought of something which is barely attainable. An object that is locked and forever out of reach.
Technical aspects: This image is in black and white which provides for optimal contrast and clarity. The picture also exhibits a large depth of field which creates a simple non distracting background. The camera is very close to the subject in order to capture a maximum amount of detail and to avoid unnecessary distractions. For this photo the ISO was set to 800. The image exhibits a shallow depth of field with an f stop of f/9. |
Street View
Observing this photo the first noticeable aspect is the leading lines. The power lines in the image carry the viewers eyes across the photograph catching at the focal points. The photograph was shot from far away using a large depth of field so as to fully catch the photos detail.
Personally I really like this photo because the black and white provides contrast making for an interesting photo. |
Enigma
This just might be one of my favorite photos that I have taken. From the red light luminously glowing on the clock to the clarity of the clock numbers to the blurred background. I titled the image Enigma because the red glow creates a mysterious almost inexplicable atmosphere.
Technical aspects: This image is shot using a shallow depth of field. The clock is in focus while the small bit of background that is visible is blurred. This allows for a simple non distracting background. The ISO was at 1250 when I took the photo. |
Vivid
Composition:
This photo was taken in the dark so as to maximize the luminosity of the light sticks. The two blue and pink light sticks are both horizontal across the photo while the red one slides down towards the bottom. This provides a variant to the photo making it interesting. Technical: ISO 100 Shutter speed: 5.0 sec f/22 |
Thought
Composition:
I took this photo for the studio portrait assignment. This image portrays a balance of negative space behind the subject and positive space. The photo is a semi close up capturing the head and cutting at the shoulders. Communication: The model portrays a thoughtful almost inquisitive expression and the light on his face provides a rather hopeful atmosphere. Simultaneously the black background allows for stark contrast in the photo making it significantly more striking. Technical: ISO 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/160 f/5.6 |
Fallen
Technical:
ISO: 3200 Shutter speed: 1/160 Composition: wide shot, Communication: I took this photograph for the "Favorite Person" assignment using my younger sister Hannah. Here she is lying in the middle of a cracked road. Roads are often used in literature to represent life or a path in life. I really like this image because it symbolizes someone who has taken a path in life only to meet with a fatal end. The path has been cracked and the she lies in the midst of a decision gone wrong. |
