Photo Essay
The subject of my photo essay is abandonment and desolation which is why I chose to take my photos at various abandoned locations is Somerset.
I chose these places based on its fallen/trashed demeanor. Every one of these places have been forgotten by humanity. Through these images the concept of abandonment after being used to full potential is prominent. The beginning and end images depict overgrown roads, paths no longer used and forgotten.
The series begins with a road and ends with one. Everything in between embodies deterioration, from the tires washed up on the rocks to the abandoned tricycle.
The strongest photo is the last one. The colors in the photo fit nicely together. The road with it's blue hue contrasts the brown brush. The road begins to the left of the image bringing the viewers eyes across the image. This ties everything together. The last image portrays texture through the brush and and both positive and negative space. The photo was taken looking through the brush. The editing directs emphasis to the brush because the photo was shot using a shallow depth of field.
